LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --
Another Christmas season has come upon us. This is a time of year filled with stories of hope, joy, and sacrifice. These types of stories do not often make the front page of the newspaper, but they are just as important. They remind us why we are here, and what we are fighting for. Charitable contributions increase dramatically during this season. People remember their unemployed neighbor who cannot provide Christmas presents for his young children. They remember the elderly who do not have warm food to eat. During this special time of year, people remember the age old message of "love thy neighbor." This is a season of sacrifice and giving, and you have sacrificed as much as any. It has been a pleasure to serve this great nation with all of you this past year. As a team, we were able to accomplish some amazing things. I am proud of all of you, and the amazing successes you have had during 2011.
During this Christmas season, please take time to remember what is important to you. For those of you who are not able to be with your family and friends, drop them a line and remind them you care. Technology has made communication quick and painless, but somehow, we are still able to lose contact with those who are important to us. For those of you who can go home, I urge you to take advantage of the opportunity and make the time count.
Take this opportunity to rest, relax, and reflect during this break; be ready to come back recharged and ready to start off the new year on the right foot. While the war in Iraq closes down, the war on extremism continues. Let's make sure this next year is one that our enemies will never forget.
Have a happy holiday season, a merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. May God bless you and your families.
