  • 70th ISRW Airmen make impact on Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas

    On August 25, Harvey, a Category 4 hurricane, made landfall near the Texas Gulf Coast. According to Weather.com, Harvey’s extreme slow movement Aug. 26 to 30 kept a fire hose of moisture pointed into southeast Texas and Louisiana for days, resulting in catastrophic flooding. Additionally, wind gusts from Harvey near its’ landfall point topped 100 mph, leading to widespread destruction of homes and buildings. Harvey dumped more than 25 trillion gallons of rain on Texas and Louisiana during a six day period. Nearly 74,000 people needed temporary shelter and losses are estimated to be more than $190 billion, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
